Gyaneshwari Yadav claims Commonwealth Games silver for India

Weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav, a 23‑year‑old from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, earned a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She lifted a total of 199 kg – 88 kg in the snatch and a personal‑best 111 kg in the clean‑jerk – briefly holding the Games record before Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih lifted 113 kg to claim gold with a 206 kg total.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated Yadav, saying her performance brought glory to the state and highlighted the need to strengthen sports infrastructure and support for athletes.
