Gyeongbuk apartment management violations surge 690%
Violations regarding the operation and decision-making processes of apartment resident representative meetings in South Korea have increased by 27.5% over the past four years. According to data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport provided to lawmaker Kim Jong-yang, violations rose from 1,334 cases in 2022 to 1,701 cases last year.
Notably, Gyeongbuk Province saw a massive 690% surge in violations during this period, the highest growth rate among the country's 17 metropolitan cities and provinces. While Gyeonggi and Seoul recorded the highest absolute number of violations, Gyeongbuk's rapid increase highlights a significant regional trend. In Gyeongbuk, Yeongju reported the highest number of violations.
Lawmaker Kim Jong-yang emphasized that apartment management issues extend beyond management companies to the decision-making processes of resident representatives. He called for institutional mechanisms to increase resident participation and transparency, suggesting that major decisions should require direct electronic voting by residents and final consent regarding the selection of service providers.
