Gyeongbuk Development Corporation converts unused new town land into community gardens

Gyeongbuk Development Corporation has launched the ‘Garden Containing Nature’ project, transforming unused land within the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Complex New Town Phase 2 district into a community urban farming space.

As part of the ‘2026 Resident Participation Living Lab’ initiative, the project repurposes vacant lots and delayed development areas into productive living infrastructure. Approximately 70 residents from 40 households participated in an initial orientation and urban agriculture training session, where they learned seedling planting and pest management from professional instructors.

The garden consists of 48 plots. While 40 plots are allocated to participating households for growing various crops—including kimchi vegetables, salad greens, root vegetables, and green vegetables—the remaining 8 plots are dedicated as communal ecological experience spaces for local children's centers and nurseries. The corporation aims to expand ecological education programs for children and foster community communication through this ESG-focused initiative.
