Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae Launches K‑Semiconductor Innovation Plan
On 1 May, Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi‑ae signed the “K‑Semiconductor Innovation Plan,” the first budget approval since taking office. The plan aims to create the world’s largest K‑semiconductor ecosystem by linking sites in Suwon, Yongin, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Seongnam, Anseong, Osan and Icheon.
Key measures include shortening fab‑construction periods, doubling production capacity within five years, establishing a provincial semiconductor strategy committee, and forming a public‑private governance body with the national Semiconductor Competition‑Strengthening Committee. The province will also support infrastructure such as power, water and roads, provide housing for talent, and launch a provisional “Gyeonggi Future Investment Corp.” to nurture 200 fabless companies.
Choo said, “This first approval directly reflects the provincial budget, and we will pursue global semiconductor super‑gap without any delay,” emphasizing alignment with the upcoming Semiconductor Special Act and the investment plans of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
