Gyeonggi municipalities announce living wage increases

Municipalities in Gyeonggi Province have announced significant increases to their living wages for upcoming years.

Yongin Special City has set its living wage for next year at 12,380 KRW per hour, a 3.7% increase from the current rate. This amount is approximately 15.7% higher than the government-mandated minimum wage of 10,700 KRW per hour. The wage will apply to approximately 300 workers employed by the city and its affiliated institutions.

Hwaseong City has confirmed its 2027 living wage at 12,750 KRW per hour, representing a 5.5% increase. This rate is roughly 19% higher than the government's minimum wage. Additionally, Hwaseong plans to implement the ‘Hwaseong-style Fair Allowance’ to support short-term contract workers (those with contracts under one year) to compensate for employment instability and the lack of severance pay. This allowance will range from 400,000 KRW to 2,605,000 KRW depending on the duration of service.
