Gyeonggi Province expands daily disability taxi usage limits

Gyeonggi Province has announced revisions to its ‘Standard Guidelines for Gyeonggi Special Transportation Services’ to improve mobility for people with disabilities. Effective September 1, the daily usage limit for special transportation services, commonly known as disability taxis, will increase from four to six trips per day. This change aims to support not only medical appointments but also broader social and daily activities.

The revised guidelines introduce a ‘post-registration system’ for wheelchair users in urgent situations. If a user can provide proof of disability, they may use the service once before completing the formal registration process, addressing administrative barriers during emergencies.

To enhance operational efficiency, the province will prioritize wheelchair users in the dispatch system. Additionally, drivers will now be required to call users to provide estimated arrival times, reducing waiting uncertainty. The guidelines also address safety, allowing exceptions for seatbelt use upon submission of a medical certificate, while establishing rules to limit service for users who do not comply with driver safety instructions.
