Gyeonggi Province faces budget deadlock threatening livelihood projects
Gyeonggi Province is facing a potential shutdown of various livelihood projects starting in October due to a deadlock in negotiations over a supplementary budget. The current dispute involves a plan to reduce the existing budget by approximately 500 billion won and reallocate funds to restore essential livelihood welfare programs.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Council has requested the restoration of welfare budgets, initially proposing around 80 billion won and later adjusting the request to the 50 billion won range. However, the provincial administration has rejected these increases, citing concerns that utilizing debt-based resources could worsen the current fiscal crisis.
If an agreement is not reached within the next few days, the execution of various projects scheduled for the final quarter of the year may be halted. Both the provincial government and the council have expressed a desire to resolve the issue quickly to prevent disruptions to public services.
