Gyeonggi Province mayors outline development goals for Pocheon and Dongducheon
Mayors of Pocheon and Dongducheon have marked their first 100 days in office by outlining strategic visions for regional growth and infrastructure development in Gyeonggi Province.
Pocheon Mayor Baek Young-hyun is focusing on the ‘Pride Pocheon’ initiative, which aims to enhance citizen happiness through four key strategies: health, humanities, balanced economic development, and garden cities. Key projects include establishing an AI policy department, pursuing designation as an education innovation leader, and developing a K-AI advanced defense industry innovation cluster. The city is also working on major transportation projects, such as the Okjeong-Pocheon wide-area railway and the GTX-G route.
Dongducheon Mayor Park Hyeong-deok is prioritizing the return of US military-donated land, arguing that the city requires national-level intervention and funding to overcome development constraints caused by long-term security sacrifices. His administration is also pushing for the extension of the GTX-C line to Dongducheon and the revitalization of the National Industrial Complex. To support economic growth, the city aims to establish a Korea Polytechnic University technical training center by 2029 to link talent cultivation with corporate recruitment.
