Gyeonggi Province passes 42.2 trillion won supplementary budget

The Gyeonggi Provincial Council has passed the province's second supplementary budget, totaling 42.2 trillion won. The final amount reflects an increase of 525.4 billion won compared to the first supplementary budget, incorporating three months of funding for various livelihood projects that had previously only been budgeted for nine months.

Key allocations include 123.4 billion won for elderly long-term care, 58.4 billion won for school meal support, and 22.3 billion won for infertility treatment support. During the deliberation process, the council added 21.6 billion won to 17 specific projects, including 3.6 billion won for postpartum care support and 3.1 billion won for market district promotion. These additions were funded by reducing reserve funds.

Governor Chu Mi-ae described the budget as a “precious agreement” reached between the executive branch and the council for the sake of residents, despite difficult fiscal conditions. However, she warned that the fiscal situation for the coming year remains extremely serious due to a lack of available resources. The council also adopted a resolution calling for local tax reforms to stabilize the province's revenue structure.
