Gyeonggi Province strengthens protections for teachers' rights
Authorities in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, are implementing new measures to protect teachers from rights infringements, malicious complaints, and child abuse allegations. The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly has passed an ordinance to support the operation of Teacher Rights Protection Officers. These officers, a group of approximately 300 specialists, are tasked with providing one-on-one support to teachers, covering everything from initial response and legal assistance to post-incident recovery.
In conjunction with this legislative move, the Pocheon Office of Education is strengthening its local response systems. The office held training sessions for school administrators to shift the burden of handling conflicts from individual teachers to organized school response teams. This system utilizes a ‘Teacher Rights Protection 119 Call Center’ and coordinates with provincial protection units to ensure rapid intervention. The goal is to create a stable educational environment where teachers can focus on instruction without facing isolated professional burnout due to external conflicts.
