Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education launches 300 teacher rights protection officers
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has launched a specialized group of 300 ‘Teacher Rights Protection Officers’ to provide one-stop support for educators facing infringements on their professional authority. This initiative, established approximately two months after Superintendent Ahn Min-seok took office, is the first of its kind to assemble such a large and diverse group of professionals.
The group includes psychiatrists, lawyers, former police officers, and current teachers. Members such as psychiatrist Ji Gu-deok and former police officer Bae Geun-seok emphasized the need to address the psychological isolation and legal burdens currently placed on teachers. Criminal law specialist Kim Ki-hoon noted that the system aims to prevent teachers from having to handle legal and administrative processes entirely alone.
While the initiative has drawn comparisons to the Netflix drama ‘True Education,’ participating educators, including teacher Yoon Seon-no, stressed that the goal is not to create conflict between teachers, students, and parents, but to foster a ‘one team’ environment where protecting teacher rights ultimately supports the right to education for students.
