Gyeonggi student violates teacher rights via SNS harassment
A middle school student in Gyeonggi Province has come under investigation for violating teachers' rights by posting their personal information and profanities on social media. On May 17, a first-year student posted the faces, names, and contact details of four teachers, including her homeroom teacher, on platforms such as Instagram and Threads, accompanied by severe insults.
The incident reportedly stemmed from the student's dissatisfaction with classroom guidance regarding class transitions. The student, who previously received a suspension for rights violations during the first semester, deleted the posts three days later.
Adding to the controversy, the student's parents filed a counter-report against the teachers for child abuse. However, police reportedly declined to register the case, determining that the teachers' actions constituted legitimate guidance according to school regulations. The parents have a history of filing similar reports that were subsequently closed without charges.
The affected teachers have requested the convening of a Teacher Rights Protection Committee, citing severe psychological distress. The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is responding by assigning dedicated rights protection officers and reviewing legal and psychological support measures for the victims.
