Gyeongju bids to host 2027 Korea-Central Asia Local Government Cooperation Forum
Gyeongju City has officially launched a bid to host the 4th Korea-Central Asia Local Government Cooperation Forum in 2027. Mayor Joo Nak-young announced this intention during the Korea-Uzbekistan Local Government Cooperation Forum held in Seoul on November 11.
The announcement follows a long history of cooperation between Gyeongju and Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Since signing a friendship agreement in 2013, the two cities have engaged in academic exchanges, cultural content development, and official training programs. Recent efforts have expanded to include economic delegations discussing energy, environment, and agriculture.
Gyeongju aims to leverage its experience in hosting large-scale international events, such as the APEC summit, to position itself as a platform for enhancing economic, investment, and cultural ties between South Korea and Central Asian local governments.
