Gyeongju to invest 4.64 billion won in barrier-free city project
Gyeongju is accelerating its initiative to create a barrier-free city, aiming to improve mobility and accessibility for the elderly, people with disabilities, and all citizens. By 2028, the city plans to invest approximately 4.64 billion won to enhance the urban environment.
Key components of the project include improving pedestrian environments, expanding low-floor buses and disabled call taxis, and reorganizing dedicated parking areas. The city has already added 26 low-floor buses and 5 call taxis to its fleet. Recent efforts also involved lowering sidewalk curbs and improving bollards at 15 locations.
To support accessibility in private and public facilities, the city is providing support for installing ramps, with plans to assist 21 locations this year. Additionally, Gyeongju intends to expand smart services, such as guidance broadcasting systems for the visually impaired and online guidance apps, to enhance the barrier-free tourism environment.
