Gyeongsangbuk-do allocates 16.2 billion won for flood recovery

Gyeongsangbuk-do has announced a 16.2 billion won recovery plan for nine local rivers damaged by heavy rainfall last month. The project focuses on restoring river embankments and revetments in areas such as Andong and Uiseong. To prevent future damage, the province intends to go beyond simple restoration by incorporating site-specific conditions and disaster prevention measures into the engineering designs.

In addition to river repairs, the province is implementing safety reinforcements for 1,209 temporary assembly houses used by wildfire victims. These reinforcements include installing anchor bolts and other structural supports based on expert consultations. The province will also address environmental risks at 192 sites by improving drainage, reinforcing slopes, and installing retaining walls. To enhance monitoring, 63 members of a village patrol mobile unit will be deployed across 21 locations in five affected municipalities to maintain a constant disaster surveillance system.
