Gyeongsangbuk-do commemorates 81st Gwangbokjeol anniversary

Gyeongsangbuk-do held various commemorative events to mark the 81st anniversary of Gwangbokjeol (National Liberation Day).

A formal celebration was held at the provincial office, attended by approximately 700 people, including independence activists' descendants, veterans' organizations, and overseas Koreans. During the ceremony, provincial Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized the region's goal of leading a new leap toward the 100th anniversary of liberation through administrative integration and industrial innovation. The event also included a campaign calling for the posthumous awarding of the Order of Merit for National Foundation to Lee Sang-ryong, the first Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.

Additionally, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization organized a ‘History Road’ program for approximately 30 young people. Participants visited several historical sites in Andong, Cheongsong, and Yeongyang to honor independence activists. The itinerary included the Nam Ja-hyeon Historical Park, the Cheongsong Anti-Japanese Righteous Army Memorial Park, and Imcheonggak, the birthplace of Lee Sang-ryong. The program aimed to connect the history of the independence movement with local tourism and cultural resources.
