Gyeongsangbuk-do implements emergency quarantine after foot-and-mouth outbreak

In Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, authorities have initiated emergency quarantine measures following the confirmation of foot-and-mouth disease at a beef cattle farm in Yecheon. The affected farm, which houses 98 cattle, saw 10 animals test positive. This outbreak occurred just 2.3 km from a previously identified site. In response, the province has implemented movement restrictions, established control zones, and planned the culling of infected animals. Extensive disinfection efforts using 55 quarantine vehicles are underway in the surrounding areas.

Separately, Gang Jin-won, the Governor of Gangjin, visited a multi-generational beef cattle farm to discuss strategies for improving farmer income. The visit focused on the challenges of rising production costs, particularly feed expenses. The Governor observed the use of self-mixed feed as a method to reduce costs and emphasized the importance of improving management efficiency and livestock care to ensure sustainable farm income despite fluctuating market prices.
