Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council hosts youth parliamentary sessions

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council held its 141st and 142nd Youth Parliamentary Class sessions to provide students with hands-on experience in local governance. On May 22, 22 students from Yeongju Jeil High School participated, and on May 23, 31 students from Pohang Jungang High School attended.

During these sessions, students acted as provincial council members, engaging in three-minute free speeches and debating various social and school-related issues. Topics included support for paid AI services to enhance student capabilities, energy conservation in empty classrooms, carbon neutrality through eco-schools, and improvements to the Information and Communications Network Act regarding freedom of expression.

Students also processed five legislative items, including ordinances on the conversion of autonomous and special purpose high schools into general high schools, and the guaranteed autonomous use of electronic devices within schools. The program aims to foster democratic citizenship by allowing youth to propose agendas, debate, and vote on local policies.
