Gyeongsangbuk-do requests support for medical school and regional integration
Gyeongsangbuk-do officials met with Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok in Andong to request political support for four major regional development projects.
The province's administration vice governor, Hwang Myeong-seok, presented several key initiatives, most notably the establishment of a medical school at National Gyeongguk University. The plan aims for a 2030 opening, including a teaching hospital with over 500 beds to address medical shortages caused by an aging population and regional disparities.
Other priorities include the promotion of the K-food industry through food-tech innovation clusters and the relocation of a second wave of public institutions to promote balanced national development. Additionally, the province requested support for the administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, a move intended to create a unified metropolitan entity by the 2028 general elections.
