Gyeongsangbuk-do to establish food convergence cluster in Andong

Gyeongsangbuk-do province has announced plans to develop a food convergence cluster to strengthen the regional food industry. On December 3, the province signed a memorandum of understanding with six institutions, including Andong City and the Gyeongbuk Bio Industry Research Institute, to foster joint research, technology development, and infrastructure support.

A central component of this project is the construction of a shared food factory in Pungsan-eup, Andong. Scheduled for completion between 2027 and 2028, the 1,885 square meter facility will involve an investment of 5.6 billion won. The factory will specialize in liquid foods, such as pressed carbonated beverages, extracts, and concentrates.

The facility aims to reduce the initial investment burden for food companies by providing shared access to production equipment. It will support the entire lifecycle of product development, from prototyping and small-scale production to commercialization, helping local businesses test market responses before moving to mass production.
