Gyeongsangbuk-do unveils strategy for local sovereignty era

Gyeongsangbuk-do is developing an execution plan for its ‘2026 Local Sovereignty Era Completion Strategy’ to address regional challenges such as population decline, youth outflow, and the concentration of resources in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The strategy is built around four major pillars: autonomy, growth, living, and talent. It includes 12 core tasks, such as the administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, the establishment of a super-regional growth system, and creating a foundation for local talent to settle in the region. The goal is to transition from a central government-led decision-making structure to a system where local governments design and execute policies based on their own authority and finances.
