Gyeongsangnam-do officials seek relocation of public institutions to Jinju
Gyeongsangnam-do officials visited the National Assembly in Seoul to request cooperation on several key regional development initiatives. Cho Hyun-jun, head of the province's Balanced Development Division, met with 16 regional lawmakers to discuss the relocation of public institutions and the preservation of local strategic assets.
A primary focus of the request is the relocation of the integrated headquarters of five power generation public enterprises to Jinju. The province argues that utilizing the existing Korea South-East Power headquarters in Jinju would prevent the waste of taxpayer money, as a new facility would cost approximately 300 billion won.
Additionally, the province is advocating for the retention of the Naval Academy in Jinhae, citing its 80-year history as a core naval hub and its impact on the local economy. Officials also discussed strategies for the second phase of public institution relocation, aiming to attract agencies that align with Gyeongsangnam-do's strategic industries, such as shipbuilding, nuclear power, aerospace, and defense.
