Gŵyl Hwyl Cas‑Gwent festival in Chepstow praised for boosting Welsh language

The inaugural Gŵyl Hwyl Cas‑Gwent festival was held on Saturday, July 4, transforming Chepstow town centre into a celebration of Welsh language, music and culture with performances, workshops and community activities. Organized and funded by Chepstow Town Council, the event took place at venues such as the Town Gate Arch, Beaufort Square and St Mary's Priory.

Welsh‑language charity Menter Iaith Blaenau Gwent, represented by Jo Price, said the weekend was a “perfect warm‑up” for the National Eisteddfod scheduled for Newport next year, highlighting the festival’s role in raising the profile of Welsh language and culture. Councilor Margaret Griffiths praised the festival for creating inclusive spaces and reinforcing the community’s bilingual heritage.
