Gymnastics coach suspended following alleged child assault in Brisbane
A gymnastics coach at Splitz Gym in Sumner, south-west Brisbane, has been stood down following allegations of physically assaulting a child on September 16. The Inala Child Protection and Investigation Unit is currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter.
Gymnastics Australia and Gymnastics Queensland issued a joint statement confirming they followed mandatory reporting requirements and immediately escalated the incident to Sport Integrity Australia and Queensland police. The coach has been suspended from all clubs affiliated with Gymnastics Australia pending the outcome of the investigation.
Organisations involved stated they have a ‘zero tolerance’ policy for behavior that puts children at risk and are focused on supporting the local community. Parents at the club were notified of the allegations last week and encouraged to provide any additional information to Sport Integrity Australia.
