Rotterdam hosts 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships
The 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships are currently underway at the Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands. The event serves as a critical qualifying gateway for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with the top three teams in both men's and women's categories securing Olympic team quotas.
In the men's team qualifications, Japan secured first place with 254.529 points, followed by Great Britain and Russia. In the individual all-around qualifying, Japan's Shinnosuke Oka took the top spot with a score of 85.098, followed by teammate Daiki Hashimoto.
On the individual front, Italian gymnasts Gabriele Targhetta and Yumin Abbadini have qualified for the pommel horse and high bar finals, respectively. Meanwhile, the Italian men's team narrowly missed the team final, finishing ninth.
In significant personal news, Dutch Olympic champion Sanne Wevers announced that the Rotterdam championships will mark her retirement from competitive gymnastics. The 35-year-old, a Rio 2016 gold medalist, stated that while she maintains a passion for the sport, she feels the time is right to conclude her career.
