Győr to host international automotive industry protest

The Vasas Trade Union Confederation has organized an international demonstration in Győr, Hungary, scheduled for Monday, November 9. The protest aims to defend European automotive jobs and demand investments rather than layoffs in response to the ongoing crisis in the automotive sector.

The movement was relocated to Győr following the decision by WKW to close its local plant. The German group plans to halt production by the end of the year and terminate the employment of approximately 470 workers, citing economic unviability and a reduction in orders. WKW serves as a supplier of decorative trim for brands including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.

Participants are expected to include workers from Hungary, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, and Slovakia. The German metal and automotive workers' union, IG Metall, is acting as a partner in this international coordination.
