GYSEV begins testing first new Stadler FLIRT InterCity train

The first of 11 new Stadler FLIRT InterCity electric multiple units has departed the Stadler factory in Poland to begin extensive testing. The testing process will involve trial runs in Romania, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.

Once regulatory approvals are secured, the new fleet is expected to enter passenger service gradually starting in 2027, with the full 11-unit fleet becoming operational by the summer of 2028. These dual-voltage trains can reach speeds of 160 km/h and are designed to operate on routes between Sopron and Budapest, Szombathely and Budapest, as well as in Austria.

Designed specifically for long-distance InterCity service, the trains will feature first- and second-class seating, air conditioning, low-floor access, and modern passenger information systems. Onboard amenities include Wi-Fi, USB-C charging ports, tablet and smartphone holders, and a dining area with food and beverage vending machines. The interior layout is flexible, allowing for the seasonal transport of up to 18 bicycles.
