Gyula Balásy linked to luxury Dubai property amid investigation
An investigation by Átlátszó and the OCCRP has revealed that Gyula Balásy, a prominent media executive, purchased a luxury apartment in Dubai's Marina district in May 2023. The property, measuring approximately 106 square meters in the 52|42 Tower, cost roughly three million dirhams (approximately 310 million HUF). While Balásy denied allegations of capital flight, records show he only received the final title deed in 2025 following a deferred sale arrangement.
Beyond the Dubai property, Balásy is linked to luxury real estate in Miami Beach, having purchased two properties for $6.5 million in 2023. Additionally, his company, New Land Media, established a subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates called Lounge Holding Ltd. This move occurred while the Hungarian National Investigation Bureau was conducting criminal proceedings against Balásy and his companies regarding the suspected overpricing of state communication contracts.
Balásy's Lounge Group has historically been a key player in managing government messaging and advertising intensity. The investigations into his companies follow announcements by Chief Prosecutor Péter Polt regarding potential irregularities in state-funded media contracts.
