Győző Martos, Ferencváros football legend, dies at 77

Győző Martos, a legendary defender for Ferencváros and a former member of the Hungarian national team, has passed away at the age of 77.

Martos, who was born in Budapest in 1949, enjoyed a distinguished career with Ferencváros, playing 346 matches across all competitions. His achievements include one Hungarian league title, four Hungarian Cup victories, and being part of the squad that played in the 1975 Cup Winners' Cup final against Dynamo Kyiv. He was also honored as a permanent champion of the club.

His death followed a sudden health crisis at home. After being hospitalized, he underwent an eight-hour open-heart surgery following a heart attack, but he ultimately could not be saved. Former teammates and friends have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the man they described as a wonderful person and a lifelong supporter of the green-and-white club.
