Géza Jeszenszky's attacker released from detention
The Budai Central District Court has released Ferenc G., the man accused of attempting to murder former Hungarian Foreign Minister Géza Jeszenszky and his wife with a hammer in June 2025. After being in detention for over a year, the suspect has been placed under criminal supervision and a restraining order.
The court has ordered that the suspect must not contact the couple and must stay away from their residence and places of stay. His movements will be monitored using technical devices. Violating these restrictions could result in fines or a return to detention.
Géza Jeszenszky expressed significant concern regarding the decision. He noted that during the attack, the assailant was armed with a hammer, a screwdriver, and gasoline, suggesting a premeditated attempt to kill him. Jeszenszky has suggested the attack may have been politically motivated, citing the suspect's extremist views and anti-Ukrainian sentiments.
