Göztepe targets European competition with new season plan

Göztepe honorary president Mehmet Sepil said the club’s primary objective for the upcoming season is to qualify for European cups, noting the team fell short at the final hurdle last year. Sepil highlighted the club’s ongoing preparation at a training camp in Bled, Slovenia, and praised the involvement of academy‑grown coaches and a 250‑person staff. He also mentioned partnerships such as recent support for Muğlaspor and clarified that the club’s transfer policy focuses on affordable, high‑potential players rather than expensive signings.

Club chairman Rasmus Ankersen reflected on the previous campaign, which ended in sixth place, and described Göztepe as one of the financially strongest clubs in the Turkish Süper Lig. He emphasised the club’s sustainable model, increased commercial revenue, and a strategic focus on developing talent, citing the sale of Romulo to Leipzig and the need to find a new ‘Romulo‑type’ player. Ankersen also celebrated the U19 team’s participation in the UEFA Youth League, underscoring the academy’s role in the club’s long‑term plan.
