H D Kumaraswamy urges broad-based growth in India's auto industry
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy has called on the automobile industry to maintain broad-based growth and prioritize a human-centric transition that places the Indian customer at the center of decision-making. Speaking at the 8th Auto Retail Conclave organized by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Kumaraswamy noted that India's mobility landscape is expanding across all vehicle categories, powertrains, and income groups.
According to FADA data, India's automobile retail sales reached a record 2.97 crore vehicles in FY2025-26, representing a 13.30 per cent increase over the previous financial year. Notable milestones include tractor retail sales exceeding 10 lakh units for the first time and commercial vehicle retail sales returning to above the 10-lakh mark for the first time since FY2018-19.
