Hộ linh tráng sĩ struggles at Vietnamese box office

The high-budget historical film “Hộ linh tráng sĩ: Bí ẩn mộ vua Đinh” is struggling to meet audience expectations during the National Day holiday period in Vietnam. Despite an investment of approximately 100 billion VND and a production process spanning nearly a decade, the film has faced mixed reviews regarding its script and character development. To improve pacing, producers made the decision to cut 20 minutes from the film, resulting in a 135-minute version.

As of August 31, 2026, the film’s performance has lagged behind competitors. While it earned nearly 14.7 billion VND in total revenue over the weekend, it was significantly outperformed by “Nghỉ hè sợ nghỉ hưu,” which has approached 150 billion VND in total revenue. On August 31, “Hộ linh tráng sĩ” recorded approximately 1.45 billion VND in daily revenue, ranking fifth in the box office standings and trailing behind both domestic hits and international titles like “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in terms of revenue per screening.
