H2IT discusses sustainability of Italy’s Hydrogen Valleys
The Italian Hydrogen Association (H2IT) recently held a roundtable discussion in Catania to address the future of ‘Hydrogen Valleys’ following the conclusion of investments funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
The discussion focused on creating the necessary conditions to make these hydrogen projects economically sustainable and structurally integrated into the national supply chain. Key objectives include strengthening the demand for renewable hydrogen, fostering integration between production and end-use, and developing economic models that ensure long-term continuity beyond public funding.
These Hydrogen Valleys are intended to serve as territorial ecosystems that connect production, distribution, and consumption, aiding the decarbonization of industrial sectors where direct electrification is difficult. The goal is to transform current infrastructure into solid industrial chains capable of generating economic, environmental, and employment benefits.
