Ha Man-sik inaugurated as 21st Commissioner of Korea Coast Guard
Ha Man-sik has been inaugurated as the 21st Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard. A native of Gwangyang, Ha is the second person from the city to hold this position, following former Commissioner Lee Seung-jae.
Ha joined the Coast Guard in 2000 as part of the 48th officer candidate class. His career includes roles such as Inspector General of the Korea Coast Guard, Chief of the Taean and Yeosu Coast Guard Stations, and Maritime Police Policy Officer at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Most recently, he served as the Commissioner of the South Sea Regional Coast Guard.
Described as a maritime security expert with experience in both field operations and policy departments, Ha stated in his inaugural address that he intends to make the field the starting point for all policies to build public trust. Gwangyang Mayor Park Seong-hyeon congratulated the new Commissioner, noting his expertise in protecting maritime sovereignty and public safety.
