Ha Tinh and Savannakhet deepen economic and logistics cooperation

Leaders from Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, and Savannakhet Province, Laos, met in Kaysone Phomvihane City on October 15, 2026, to hold a high-level summit aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.

Phan Thien Dinh, Chairman of the Ha Tinh People's Committee, and Da-von Xay-su-lien, Chairman of the Savannakhet Provincial People's Committee, co-chaired the meeting. The summit focused on reviewing the 2022–2025 cooperation memorandum and establishing key priorities for future development in sectors such as education, culture, trade, and investment.

Economic connectivity remains a central pillar of the relationship. The Lao-Viet International Port in the Vung Ang Economic Zone serves as a critical hub for Laotian goods accessing international markets. In the first nine months of 2026, goods from Laos accounted for over 40% of the total cargo volume handled at the port. Additionally, the two provinces have collaborated on human resource training, with Ha Tinh providing scholarships for Savannakhet students to study Vietnamese language and various specialized disciplines.
