Ha Tinh deploys artificial reefs using Formosa compensation funds

Ha Tinh Province has begun deploying artificial reefs in coastal waters to restore marine ecosystems and replenish fishery resources. On September 21, the first 25 reef blocks were released off the coast of Ky Xuan commune.

The project, managed by the Ha Tinh Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Project Management Board, has a total investment of 170 billion VND. The funding is sourced from compensation payments made by Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Co., Ltd., as allocated by the Prime Minister.

The initiative aims to deploy a total of 9,000 reef blocks across four areas covering approximately 8 square kilometers. These reefs, consisting of spherical and hollow cubic shapes made of specialized reinforced concrete, are designed to provide shelter, feeding grounds, and breeding habitats for marine life. The structures will be placed at depths of 15 to 22 meters, roughly 4.5 kilometers from the shore, to help mitigate the impact of bottom trawling on juvenile fish and spawning grounds.
