Ha Tinh hospital reports surge in pediatric RSV cases
Ha Tinh General Hospital has reported a rapid increase in pediatric hospitalizations due to Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The pediatric department is currently receiving more than 10 children per day diagnosed with the virus.
Many patients are arriving in severe condition because families initially mistook symptoms like mild fever, coughing, and runny noses for common respiratory infections and attempted to treat them at home with self-purchased medication. As the virus progresses, it can lead to bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and respiratory failure. Infants, premature babies, and children with underlying health conditions are at the highest risk for severe complications.
Medical professionals note that there is currently no specific antiviral treatment for RSV; management focuses on supportive care and symptom control. To prevent spread, health officials recommend frequent handwashing, maintaining clean environments, and limiting contact between children and individuals showing respiratory symptoms. Parents are urged to seek immediate medical attention if a child exhibits rapid breathing, chest retractions, cyanosis, or difficulty feeding.
