Ha Tinh man prosecuted for illegal possession of military-grade air gun

A man in Ha Tinh province, Vietnam, has been criminally prosecuted for the illegal possession of military-grade weapons. Nguyễn Văn Trung, a resident of Hà Linh commune, discovered an air gun in a bush near a cemetery while searching for bees on July 15.

Rather than reporting the find, Trung returned to the site that evening to retrieve the weapon for the purpose of hunting birds. He was subsequently intercepted and apprehended by authorities at the Mụ Đàn cemetery. Investigations by the Ha Tinh Provincial Police confirmed the air gun is classified as a military weapon, leading to charges under Article 304 of the Penal Code.

Authorities reported that in the first half of 2026, the provincial security investigation agency has prosecuted 8 cases involving 25 individuals related to the illegal manufacture, possession, transport, and sale of weapons.
