Ha Xuan Hau expelled from Party and arrested in Hue City

Ha Xuan Hau, Director of the Hue City Construction and Urban Development Investment Project Management Board, has been expelled from the Communist Party of Vietnam. The Hue City Party Committee issued the disciplinary decision following findings of serious violations of Party regulations and State laws.

Hau is accused of negligence and lack of responsibility in his duties, specifically regarding anti-corruption, waste prevention, and exemplary conduct, which resulted in severe consequences. He was previously arrested and prosecuted by the Hue City Police for ‘irresponsibility causing serious consequences’ under the Penal Code.

The investigation centers on a domestic waste environmental pollution treatment project in Huong Binh, Huong Tra. The project, approved in 2017 with an investment of 85.79 billion VND, has faced significant issues including unfeasible proposals, inappropriate site selection, and the selection of underqualified contractors. These failures have caused the project to remain unfinished for over seven years, leading to budget inflation and wasted state resources.
