Haarlem's Molen De Eenhoorn Marks 250 Years with Festive Open Day
On Saturday 25 July the historic Paltrok‑type windmill De Eenhoorn in Haarlem celebrated its 250th anniversary. The open‑day attracted many visitors who enjoyed pancakes cooked continuously by a baker from Groningen, drinks, and a range of family activities such as face‑painting and miniature windmills.
The mill, likely first built around 1640 and the present structure dating from 1776, originally sawed timber by wind power. After an electric sawmill took over in 1927 the windmill fell out of use, but volunteers restored it in the 1980s and it now operates again as a working piece of industrial heritage. The event featured speeches, historic mill books on display, and comments from Rob Ingenhoest, chairman of Stichting Molens Zuid‑Kennemerland.
