Haas F1 team faces budget‑cap shortfall

Team principal Ayao Komatsu said Haas is struggling to meet Formula 1’s $215 million budget cap for the 2026 season. The American‑owned outfit, operating from Banbury, England, is still below the cap halfway through the year, limiting its ability to develop the car and remain competitive.

With a workforce of about 400 people—far fewer than the 1,000‑plus staff at leading rivals—the team’s limited resources have contributed to modest results, scoring only 21 points after seven races. Komatsu warned that the shortfall could jeopardise the retention of emerging talent such as driver Oliver Bearman, whose salary is excluded from the cap but whose future depends on the team’s ability to field a competitive car.

The financial constraints also affect technical development, as Haas cannot fully exploit the new chassis and power‑unit regulations introduced for 2026. Komatsu described the situation as “fighting with both hands tied behind our back,” emphasizing the challenge of securing additional revenue while staying within the budget limits.
