Haas F1 team fights with both hands tied over $215m budget cap
Haas F1 team principal Ayao Komatsu said the American outfit is "fighting with both hands tied" because it cannot yet meet the 2026 Formula 1 budget cap of $215 million. The cap excludes driver salaries, the three highest‑paid staff and marketing costs. Komatsu highlighted that Haas employs roughly 400 people, while several rival teams have staff numbers exceeding 1,000, limiting the squad’s development pace.
Despite the financial constraints, Haas posted an impressive start to the season, sitting fourth in the constructors’ standings after the first two Grand Prix. Oliver Bearman contributed strong results, finishing seventh in Melbourne and fifth in China. Komatsu stressed that securing additional revenue is a top priority to allow the team to operate at the budget limit and remain competitive.
The team’s limited resources have led to slower car development compared with better‑funded rivals, prompting Komatsu to seek new partners and funding sources to close the gap.
