Habitat for Humanity CEO highlights global housing crisis

Jonathan T. M. Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, has warned that the gap between housing costs and family incomes is at its widest in modern history. Speaking at a gala in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, to mark the organization’s 50th anniversary, Reckford noted that housing costs are rising significantly faster than incomes globally.

To address this crisis, Reckford emphasized the need for increased cooperation between civil society and both the public and private sectors. Habitat for Humanity International has assisted over 65 million people worldwide since its founding in 1976.

In Trinidad and Tobago, the local affiliate has operated since 1997 and is planning to triple its impact over the next three years. The organization aims to expand its work in community resilience and move toward influencing policies that shape housing access.
