Habits to support cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic health
The body's cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic systems are deeply interconnected, meaning issues in one area can trigger problems in the others. This interconnectedness can lead to CKM syndrome, where conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and kidney disease develop or worsen simultaneously.
To support CKM health, the American Heart Association suggests following strategies aligned with its ‘Life’s Essential 8’ guidelines. Key recommendations include maintaining a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, plant-based proteins, and lean animal proteins while limiting added sugars, salt, and fatty foods. Additionally, physical activity is encouraged, with recommendations of 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week.
