Hachinohe, Japan celebrates August 8 2026 with citywide festivals and a special Alpico Railway ticket set

On 8 August 2026 (Reiwa 8), Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture designated the date a commemorative city holiday. The municipality organized numerous activities, including food‑market stalls, a “South‑Beni” table‑tennis tournament, free admission to the city museum, art museum, archaeological museum and historic park, a special marriage‑form distribution, and promotional events at the local stadium coinciding with the J2 league opening match.

At the same time, Alpico Railway launched a limited‑edition “Kamikochi Line Reiwa 8 8 8 ticket set” to mark the triple‑eight date. The set includes one‑way tickets between Matsumoto and Misawa, a ticket from Shin‑Shimashima to Shimo‑Shin, an entrance ticket to Shin‑Shimashima Station, and an “888 commemorative certificate”. Only 500 sets are available, priced at ¥1,090, with a design featuring the 100‑year‑old ED301 electric locomotive. Sales begin at 10 a.m. on the day at designated stations.
