Hadramaut tribes call for mobilization after raid on Sheikh al-Sayari’s home

Tensions have escalated in Yemen’s Hadramaut province following a raid on the home of tribal leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Mabkhout bin Muayqal al-Sayari in the Manukh area. Local sources report that Saudi-backed emergency forces stormed the residence, arrested the Sheikh’s son, Abubakr, along with four companions, and allegedly looted valuable belongings.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local tribes, who view the raid as a violation of traditional customs regarding the sanctity of homes and a breach of legal protections. In response, the Kinda tribes and other Hadramaut tribal groups have called for a ‘nakf’—a traditional tribal mobilization—to protest ongoing violations by the emergency forces.

Human rights activists have characterized the raid as part of a broader pattern of perceived disrespect toward the residents of southern and eastern Yemen by Saudi-aligned forces. This follows a similar incident approximately one month ago, when emergency forces raided the home of Sheikh Ali Haftan al-Sayari in the Al-Abr district, leading to clashes and further calls for tribal mobilization.
