Hațeg Country UNESCO Geopark attends European conference in Finland
Representatives from the UNESCO Hațeg Country International Geopark, in collaboration with the University of Bucharest, participated in the 18th European Geoparks Network Conference held in Finland from September 16–18, 2026. The event was hosted by the Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark and brought together over 250 representatives from geoparks across Europe and other continents.
The Romanian delegation, which included members from the Dobrogea Chimerică Geopark project, presented various initiatives and activities conducted alongside local schools, communities, and partners. At the Geopark Fair, Romania maintained a visible presence through a joint stand representing several territories, including the Hațeg Country and Buzău County UNESCO Global Geoparks, as well as aspiring geoparks such as Oltenia de sub Munte and Carpaterra.
During the conference, Cristian Ciobanu signed an agreement on behalf of the Hațeg Country Geopark to continue collaboration within the Danube GeoTour Plus international project. This agreement outlines future directions, including increased involvement of local communities and the development of new initiatives.
