Hagen’s “Knastpraline” becomes hit snack at city market

Sven Roelofs, a 53‑year‑old caterer who lives in Hagen, Germany, introduced a new snack called the “Knastpraline” at the weekly market on Friedrich‑Ebert‑Platz. The dish combines a meatball, fried egg, caramelised onions and curry sauce. Roelofs explains the preparation simply: “Eine Frikadelle, ein Spiegelei, gebratene Zwiebeln, Currysoße – fertig.”

The unusually named snack quickly attracted customers, with Roelofs noting, “Der verrückte Name lockt die Leute einfach an, etliche bleiben stehen, und einige bestellen dann auch gerade diese besondere Frikadelle.” The offering has become a regular item on his stall’s menu, drawing regulars and visitors alike on hot summer days.

Roelofs runs the stall with his wife Sabrina and employee Tanja Anweiler, and the “Knastpraline” has become a notable attraction at the local market.
