Hagia Sophia reopening commemorated with new religious hymn

Muezzin Rıdvan Akbaş has composed a religious hymn titled ‘Ulu Mabet Ayasofya’ to commemorate the reopening of the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque for worship after 86 years.

Akbaş, who was appointed as a muezzin at the mosque just one day prior to its reopening, stated that he wrote a poem to capture the emotions and observations from the opening day. He subsequently set the poem to music to create a lasting tribute to the event. The hymn reflects on the long-held aspirations of previous generations and includes prayers for Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
